Today's Devotion

Our job description!

"By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence.4 And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world's corruption caused by human desires. 5 In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God's promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge,6 and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with patient endurance, and patient endurance with godliness,7 and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love for everyone. 1 Peter 2:3-7"

I stumbled across these verses as I went to the context for a verse I received from KLOVE this morning. I think that it provides us as Christians a wonderful job description of sorts, how we are suppose to live, and even the "requirements"/tools we have to live a godly life. Just last night my mom and I were talking about those who have experienced loss and how amazingly their faith grows stronger, in verse 4 the Bible tells us why "Promises that enable you to share his divine nature and ESCAPE the world's corruption caused by human desires". We do live in at times a very ugly, depressing, and ungodly world, but through our faith in God we can surive and thrive knowing what lasts forever, our relationship with HIM. I love the last few verses in this scripture basically outlining for us what we need to do to supplement our faith, almost like requirements to our job description; moral excellence with knowledge, knowledge with self control, self control with patient endurance, and patient endurance with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with LOVE for EVERYONE". Wow sounds like a pretty tough job to do, doesn't it. And yes sometimes being a Christian is difficult, and sometimes even quite lonely but as most humans want to excell and better themselves, this verse gives us all a great challenge, and I can only imagine the blessings that will come along with reaching for this. Something God has really been working with me on is loving everyone regardless if I like them or not. As Christians we need to help and support each other in our job as Christians, we are all coworkers and need to work together to serve God and ensure all the glory is for HIM! So today what requirement are you working on? FOr me its probably self control with patient endurance as we wait and see about a closer job for Nathen, and the loving everyone thing is something I'm always trying to work on.

Yes it sounds like a daunting task but through God anything is possible so go ahead say a prayer and jump into meeting the job requirements of being a Christian!

In God's love,

sarah
